Solid State Drive Comparison - Round 2 > A-Data S592 128GB
A-Data S592 128GB
The new S592 belongs to A-Information's S500 serial of loftier-performance drives. This new series is available in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities. A-Data claims a read and write speed of 250MB/s and 170MB/southward respectively, for the 128GB and 256GB models. The 32GB and 64GB models are slightly slower with read and write speeds of 230MB/south and 150MB/s.
The claimed throughput specs are roughly the same as the OCZ Vertex serial, at least for the 128GB and 256GB versions anyhow. Therefore information technology comes equally trivial surprise to find that the A-Data S592 makes use of the Indilinx (IDX110) Barefoot SSD controller with the standard 64MB cache. Just like the Vertex, the S592 uses the same Samsung K9HCG08U1M-PCB0 memory chips.
The major difference between the A-Information S592 128GB and the OCZ Vertex, Vertex Turbo and even the Agility is in their firmware. This difference extrapolates to other relevant areas such equally support. For instance, OCZ provides their customers with ongoing support through updated firmware and fifty-fifty tools to trim the drives, whereas A-Data offers nothing.
Furthermore, the A-Data website lists almost no specifications for the S592, and so we'll merely take to assume they are similar to other Indilinx Barefoot SSDs. Availability shows a similar story with none of the A-Data online retail partners offering the drives when we were working on this review.
What we can tell you is that the A-Data S592 comes in a durable lightweight black plastic case, which we experience is of better quality than that of the OCZ drives. The advantage to using a plastic case is that information technology won't scratch as hands. Subsequently just a few installs our OCZ drives using aluminum cases look as though they have been through a state of war zone.
